Develop your quality inspection skills as part of Gulmay’s Quality team at our primary factory in Byfleet, ensuring incoming components and materials meet the required engineering standards and specifications.

You will manage goods inwards inspections and Initial Sample Inspection Reports while supporting supplier quality improvements, investigating non-conformances and working with colleagues and suppliers to implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Purpose

To be responsible for goods inwards inspection, ensuring that all relevant standards and requirements are met.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Take responsibility for supplier quality, ensuring that the correct procedures, documentation, and reporting are followed in line with the Gulmay Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Manage goods inwards inspections and Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIRs).
  • Support the Supplier Quality Engineer with quality improvement plans for key suppliers when required.
  • Support the Supplier Quality Engineer with supplier rejections, including actioning supplier-related internal non-conformance reports (INCRs) and containment activities.
  • Ensure that Gulmay’s supplier procedures are followed in accordance with the relevant standards and specifications.
  • Support the Supplier Quality Engineer in resolving supplier issues, working alongside relevant departments to recommend suitable corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and raising engineering change notices (ECNs) when changes are required.
  • Undertake other responsibilities or tasks when reasonably required, including cross-training to support final inspection and the wider Quality department.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying issues and completing any required actions.

Person specification

Essential requirements

  • Experience of inspecting goods received within an engineering organisation associated with electromechanical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards relating to printed circuit boards (PCBs) and wiring looms.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand and communicate engineering information to suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate and engage effectively with suppliers and internal colleagues at all levels.
  • A disciplined, numerate, analytical, and factual approach.
  • A proven record of problem-solving and achieving measurable improvements to processes and products.
  • Knowledge and experience of Lean and problem-solving tools, including 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, Poka-Yoke, FMEA, Kaizen, 6S, and Six Sigma.
  • Experience of working within a Lean culture and using continuous-improvement techniques to reduce variation and enhance quality.
  • Experience of working within an ISO 9001-certified organisation.
  • A dynamic and self-motivated approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • ERP literacy and proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Job details

Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Location: Byfleet.

Salary: Dependent on experience, plus bonus, pension, and 26 days’ annual holiday.
